Okay Bloggies,
So the topic today is Hair Dye,, and coloring. This is a relatively new concept for me as I've loved my hair color my whole life and it wasnt till recently that I realized the 'smattering' of greys have spread and I can't brush them out of my line of vision.
Hence I lost my mind!.
So now I'm a dyer..... and I consulted my expert-friends to help me find the right color and actually 'apply the dye'. You know I"m too frugal to go have it done professionally (at least its going to need to be maintained!), and you know that I bought boxes that I had coupons for,, but still.
I need some basic knowledge on this topic and I'm hoping all you wiser than me bloggies can help guide a girl. Perhaps you know from personal experience, or perhaps you know from your mothers or grandmothers teaching you, or perhaps you know cause you went to beauty school... or know someone who does. I won't judge , promise!
Okay things I need to know.
1) How long is this color expected to last!?
2) Is there a way to buy just enough to retouch up the roots but not the whole head and not pay as much?
3) How long is 'too long' to not do the roots?
4) If I tough up the roots, how will I know they will match the rest unless I do it all over again?
5) What kind of budget should I have for this new 'addition' to my life?
Okay bloggies please share your brains cause I'm a dud on this one, and my hair is growing like a weed.!
Gratias!

1) Color can last anywhere from 3-6 weeks or so depending on how you take care of it. I recommend using a color boosting shampoo to help maintain color. As well as a conditioner. :)
2 & 4) Touching up just the roots CAN be done, but I've never seen it done to where it matches the rest of the hair exactly so it's safer to go with an all over the head coloring each time.
3) Any long is too long to not do roots. But styled just the right way, the roots can be undetectable for a couple of days to a week.
5) Plan on dying every month and a half or so.
6) Come over my house and let me do it. I do my Nene's hair all the time.
Hope this helped somewhat. :)
Wish I could help, but I have no clue. My hairdresser highlights mine and I pay way too much!!
I have two sils who are hairdressers, so I have them do my hair.
Usually about every 6 weeks you need a touch-up.
Ok, this may or may not help... but this is what I use. Avon highlights ... a tiny bit all over after every shampoo. I esp. focus on the scalp/roots. Heat and sun (if I ever get to see the sun again :-) changes/activates the color/high lights. It works for me and I'm 47 (shuuuu, don't tell anymone). :-)

oooo I dye my hair!!! I had it natural for awhile but then I saw loads of white hairs (yes I have witchy white hair lol) so I've been getting it half head highlighted with honey color (not blonde but not brown) every 3 months. it costs 60$ in jersey, 80$ for haircut too, which is awesome compared to the citys prices of 250! It keeps the whites sort of hidden, but i had still see them popping up.Martin pulled one out the other day! Makes me feel so old!!!!
ps if you are dying dark, i've heard people use mascara to touch up roots in between dying!
I'm loving the answers from your readers-- I've only highlighted my hair (3 times, I think), and have never dyed it. But I know I'm going to have to before too much longer; blondes tend to go white, and I don't like that!

-It's hard to say how long the color will last. It last for me forver, once it's on. However I still have to dye it fairly regularly to get the new growth. I have VERY fast growing hair. So I have to dye it once a month.
- I do just roots, but I have very thick hair, so I use a whole bottle just on roots. If I was doing whole head for first time I'd need two bottles.
- The darker you go the harder to get out later. Exception to that is red. Red is harder to get out than black. Assuming you don't want to get it out later- doesn't matter.
I use Clairol and there is usually a dollar off coupon in the box for the next one:)
Hope that helps! I wish you lived closer, I'd totally do it for you!
